THE END OF MEDIA
That one App would one day would herald the end of all media speaks volumes about the power of technology and how a single tool can completely revolutionise our existence. In whatever we do today WhatsApp certainly has left an indelible mark on our day to day living to its core. On the other hand it has proved very emphatically that anything can dished out in the name news / fact/ incident / truth or revelation to the ever unsuspecting users ready to lap it 25/7/365. Well educated, educated, semi-educated, only signature types or illiterates; all behave the same. What a democratisation of information!
With the general population not reading or making any effort to know and understand the world around, WhatsApp appeared as the knight in the shining armour. It was meant to ameliorate the drudgery of mankind. Growing without any advertisement globally, sold for 19 billion dollars with only 32 employees, it was destined to rule the the world and it is. Today all media combined are not turning even a worthy battle for it. Nothing in human history has bound people the way this medium has.
With everybody becoming a news agency and an editor with a captive global evidence it is the best time to have fun at somebody’s else expense, even each on the other. Finally, a fooled society and community wasting time, energy, mental space and creating a narrative which does not exist. A case in point is the issues related to the current Corona virus. What’sApp New Agency went agog with the creative writers feeding all that they could imagine of; the preventive strategy.
People were rushing to believe what they were being fed on this medium. Might be World Health Organisation and other official websites were begging for visitors with all the authentic information available. Official, authentic or professional factual voices are fighting their lone battle. How will all the great battles of world would be fought henceforth through the vitiated media platforms which sustain us?
FROM WIKILEAKS TO WHATSAPP WE HAVE COME A LONG WAY, ONLY THE DIRECTION REMAINS UNKNOWN.
