DISCOMFORT LEVEL

DISCOMFORT LEVEL

Comfort level is what we have been talking about since the onset of modern management education. Efforts are being made to improve the comfort levels of the employees.  Nonetheless, most of the employees & organisations too are caught in quagmire of friction with their job descriptions, with other professionals as subordinates & superiors, with the ecosystem, organisational culture etc.  This is the  DISCOMFORT LEVEL.  Whatever is achieved through motivational tools is negated by the prevailing discomfort level.

The employee in the first place is constant friction with himself; either doesn’t like the job description he is fixed up with or he feels that he has not been given the due . It’s an ongoing battle at the individual level & in the process doesn’t improve his attitude, mindset / competencies & thus  vicious cycle continues.

In this fast moving world with information regarding everything being known, the comparison starts . He feels he is not getting his due, more so with the financial package.  He is always on the lookout for a better opportunity. A permanent transitory mindset in eternal search of more, will never make a thorough professional.  His head and heart is neither here or there.

If superior is also in the same mode, it has a multiplier effect, with a feeling of being both burdened & exploited.  Though the avenues of fun and frolic have increased, most of them go for the same avenues of shopping, parties etc, rather than for  passion related hobbies which eases the pain from the individual & provides a stabling feeling in life,  refreshed to provide the best in his professional job.

Professionalism today is synonymous with impersonal relationship and lack of interpersonal relationship and consequent trust and rapport deficit is accentuating the discomfort levels manifold.

DISCOMFORT LEVEL IS THE TRUE INDICATOR OF THE PROFESSIONAL HEALTH OF THE EMPLOYEE.
