EFFORT & RESULTS

The  business concept & calculation of efforts and its direct correlation with results , through the supposedly well established principle and process of costing is not yielding results as is seen in lots of projects. The  requirements itself is not correctly understood  and that being the case all other calculations fall flat. The  time tested matrix & formulas are getting unstuck  & the results out in the open for all of us to see. Then the preferred mode is prove that the executor is not responsible.  The other stakeholders are to be generally blamed.

In the present days of complex & integrated projects with different technology options, the effort calculation is  presumably based on the high end Human Resource’s  with well proven track record. Do we have such resources and if they are available do we get them for all the projects?  On PPTs  & glossy documentation all looks so glam & doable.  Not in practice. The flaunted failsafe resources are the professionals who fail the project.

Above these real practitioners are a host of  intermediaries  who in business parlance are the  supervisory managers.  Adding little or no value to the project, drawing hefty salaries are the real bottlenecks.  With all approvals going through them they are arbiters of project execution .  They lack the knowledge of even the basic details of the project execution and  facilitate creation of invoices and chase them.  Who is ready to listen to the customer and handle project execution mess.

The failsafe project execution documentation does not account for failures,  in bids & pieces or major ones, which are a part of any project.  A document can never be translated in the manner it is made out to be.  The pace at which bids are created adds to the project execution woes. If we do the result analysis, not even impact, we  find lots of issues unattended even in most successful  of the projects. This has to change.  Real effort is the sum total of ownership & consequent involvement.

A PROJECT IS NOT A SUM TOTAL OF A NEAT CALCULATION OF EFFORTS & RESULTS.
