EXAM SCORES, ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE & PROFESSIONAL IMPACT

With results of board after board being declared, the scores have been hitting the rooftop as in yesterdays.  Girls have been performing better than boys for the past so many decades. What does this translate into reality?  What reaping the bountiful harvest which these figures promise?  Or all this is just a passport to supposedly good jobs? Will we continue to be the backend office of the world?

Does academic scores mean academic brilliance & henceforth academic excellence is suspect.  Academic excellence means the ability to maintain the capability to learn & use knowledge on a sustainable basis for one’s life time, unrelated to exams.  The subsequent stage is to use this knowledge and consequent skills / competencies gained for tangible benefits  for the organisation & society. Why a talent pool of high scoring brilliant young boys & girls, are unable to translate their professional work to achieve the goals mentioned above is the moot question.

Might be the middle class dream connects academic brilliance to a well paid job is at the root of the problem.  Myopic thinking will certainly lead to myopic results. The wider societal requirements does not fall in anybody’s lap.  How do we explain complete lack of IITians in India’s space program.  Is it not challenging or a non-concern.  Our educational – familial – societal ecosystem has no time to delve into these issues.

With girls performance as they are, their consequent share at the top & in the decision making process remains at a minimalist level.  Scores to meaningful accomplishment in life knotty tangle has to sorted out. Mindset issues are the most challenging ones at all levels.

Lab to field analogy has its precursor, academic scores to meaningful achievements.  Dr. Swaminathan, Dr. Kurien, Mr. Sreedharan & many more have shown the way. We need many more takers.

ACADEMICS SCORES ARE JUST THE BEGINNING OF A FULFILLING JOURNEY. IT HAS BE GONE THROUGH.
