FACTS HAVE BECOME A BATTLE CRY
The successful transformation of facts into sentiments is the singular achievement of this country. Better still sometimes each of us have our own data. More and more we get disassociated the data, the louder would be our spoken love for it. The beauty of our existence is that we have no idea as to what data we are looking for, what can be the likely source and what manner we will process it and use it for the required purpose. Tv channels have been talking about being driven by facts. How can a 24 hour news channel survive even for a day if it is driven only by facts.
Fact is that facts come at the downward filtration end of research what these tv channels keep talking about, without knowing the intent of it. Finding out some information about somebody is research for them. Huge amount of resources are deployed for this low end information gathering task mistakenly termed as research. Fanciful talking is our forte. Whole day the media thrives on opinion and gossip, where is question to fact coming into play. They have developed the art of running talk shows on any figment of imagination. The panelists also mostly belong to the same genre. Some have started talking of Hard Facts, seems they are there for higher glory of God. Breaking news variety.
When we start using data in our personal and professional life on a regular basis for long, then we get into a fact driven world. Not many can decipher facts but for physical ones, that too happening right in front of them. Facts become facts if they can be verified and you should know the process. It depends on the domain and ecosystem you are in, you should have the capability to navigate through the knowledge resources of that domain. First locate it and then verify it. Once you have decided to put it to use, there can be no way of it being wrong
If you have not worked in a data driven environment, you will not know what value it brings to you professional life. Same applies if you are driven by facts. Data and facts have an uncanny knack of getting across each other in a seamless manner. Data is the objective manifestation of a fact. If all of us follow the same definition there would hardly be any complication in life. Elections are won on sentiments and governments formed, every single facet of Indian life is devoid of facts and if questioned, a sentimental statement would await you – don’t you have faith on me?
