HUMUNGOUS CCTV PROJECTS – A DISJOINTED STORY
Installation of few CCTVs in establishments started happening nearly two decades back. With security threats increasing and technical capability of the cameras taking a quantum leap, the immense benefits that could be derived out of it became necessary amply clear. The inbuilt transfer of videos, analytics, locational analysis, creation of command centers with video being the leading input transformed it into a city based video surveillance network. This can be called the Third Eye.
As the size and complexity of the Projects started increasing the projects started taking a structured format. The stakeholders increased but the all knowing project head with the capability to execute with elan could never be found. The responsibilities got divided and so did minds. There was no unison of thought. The document was supposed to make this happen. This is like putting the cart before the horse. An multi-technology, multi-stakeholder, seamlessly integrated, robust and fully functional project cannot be created in this format.
Professional document however neatly done, which has not been the case here, cannot tie up professionals. Professionals who are tied up for a cause can only create such documents and make it happen. This has to be assisted by extremely harsh quality and legal regime, the west way. The format emerged here is because of one failing after the other and compulsion for creating a cover for each one of these.
Leading the pack of stakeholders is the prima donna, the consultant, big or small, trying to cobble other stakeholders. They gather for purpose of that particular project and have nothing else in common. Then comes the System Integrator, on the format laid down by the Consultant. The we have the OEMs, channel partners, outsourced agents and God knows who all; known, unknown and sundry. The system functions exact opposite of a Symphony trying to deliver the same seamlessness.
