IN THE PUBLIC DOMAIN

Understanding of being in the public domain is different for different persons. Whatever be our perception, we want to be in the public domain. Public domain fascinates one & all, broadly based on the human urge to be known and to make sense to the community. In general, while people love to be in the public domain, yet they don’t want express their mind and share their expertise.

Public domain should be be melting pot of knowledge and skills of the community, society & the nation. That can happen only when the public domain becomes a crowd sourcing mechanism. While the present norm is to the contrary, the individuals want to extract the best they can from the public domain, while delivering nothing there. American no free lunch starts. There is nothing generic available in the public domain.

Individuals in the public domain contributing, can help create a portal, which can be knowledge repository for the geographical area and also for the sector. It also helps in validating the idea, the initiatives taken and the projects executed. With the validation at the back, these individuals / professionals would become more empowered and their contribution to society would certainly increase. Public domain thus becomes a two way process.

Public domain has to become meaningful and cannot be the sole domain of rabble rousing, creating a follower base, extraction of data and unleashing unwarranted propaganda. The individuals who gain out of the public domain have to prove their worth there by their contribution. Using public domain as an encashing mechanism is doing great disservice to the time & energy people spend in the public domain. They need to gain out it. The narrative has to change.

The public domain being used for name, fame, glory and market is directly proportional to people’s gullibility. Practitioners in the public domain can make it content rich & worthwhile.

THE QUALITY OF THE PUBLIC DOMAIN NARRATIVE REFLECTS THE REAL STATE OF THE NATION.
