INDEXED, REFERENCED, CIRCULATED, REUSED

The new format of knowledge as a dispensable commodity, given the all encompassing surge of the social media is a death knell to knowledge itself. It seems to get forgotten before it’s even read. The pace is mind boggling and even the worthwhile ones gets lost in the constant flow of posts. The links and the forwards have the same life cycle of that of a firefly. Even the viral are a passé till another viral appears. The mental imprint is missing.

Knowledge as repository of use, over and over again is losing its primordial place in the learning mechanism. Can we remember what a blogger writes and what purpose does it serve? Knowledge has to be indexed, circulated in a systemwide manner fit to be used and worthy of being remembered. It has to be a referenced material, which can located at ease for exactly the purpose, for which we required. It has to be used and reused over and over again, if it serves our need.

Textbooks in itself were not sufficient to take world head on, after getting out of the famed educational system. At the very minimum, they were known, referenced resource, with reading list & bibliography to help the ones, having hunger for knowledge. As you go higher more students finding solace in ppts. Unreferenced generally, the utility is only limited to getting low grades in the exam. The quality of the engineers truly reflects the malaise.

Knowledge resources are being littered all across the length & breath of the splintered global digital repository. Accepting that some resources are of value, do educational institutions invest enough resources to cull out, collate and provide it any usable format to the students. While we have globally validated resources on the net, we keep providing lowest class academic resources to our students, inclusive of Human Resource. A cataloging of best possible available global resources for the specific needs is a must.

A KNOWLEDGE REPOSITORY INDEXED & REFERENCED FOR A PURPOSE CAN ONLY DELIVER.
