LIVING OFF, ON ONE TIME ACCOMPLISHMENTS

While we claim perks, fun, frolic, name, fame and what not for all our life, we live off on one time accomplishments. Accomplishments has to keep on happening. Very frequently you will find an old IITian telling you the IIT JEE rank he got, not the CGPA he was awarded in the IIT. Toppers of exams should have a shelf life of the utility or the advantage it is going to provide. Lots of achievements are supposed to support you for a lifetime. Some of them even have perks attachment to it. You are worth your last major accomplishment. Given the nature of the ecosystem and the capability to derive benefits out of it, we find people achieving something worthwhile once or twice and then living off it, for a life time.

Even better are a professional lot, who in the Social Media age have developed the capability to create an accomplishment out of nothing. Then it is circulated with audacity and intensity and finally it becomes an accomplishment. The most interesting part of our professional and personal existence is that our setbacks and failures remains undocumented in the public, kept out of the preying eyes of the world. Picking up one or few accomplishments and making a life collage out of it, is the art we have been gained immense expertise in.

What should be the shelf life of an accomplishment? How does academic accomplishment connect to your job expertise, if nothing is demonstrated? How does a certification or degree in a sought after field be treated as an accomplishment when the professional has not delivered anything on the ground? Should it not treated as a matter of shame. Not letting known the branch of study under the garb of the reputation of an institution has been our favourite hobby. Anything done, mundane & sundry, finds a place in the achievements section of the CV.

Do we lack the capability to remain competent and sustainably give quality delivery for a life time? When you reach closer to your retirement, it seems that only nostalgia and reminiscences remain your accomplishments. Because of outdated and outmoded accomplishments and your deep seated sense of achievement in it, the family and few acquaintances have to bear with the narrative as a litany of owes, after your retire. The great human desire to exploit his achievements to perpetuity cannot be held against institutions, organisations, business enterprises and the community itself.

WHEN ACCOMPLISHMENTS DON’T MAKE SENSE TO THE ECOSYSTEM AND DON’T PROPEL DELIVERY, THEY CEASE TO EXIST.
