SOLOED, SILOED, BROKEN AND UNFIXED
Working on a collaborative mode is not our destiny. As an operational philosophy, it has no takers in any sector, the world over. As long as costs can be cut down and some fast buck can be made, this happens. The Toyota Way management model speaks of assembly line and supply chain efficiency to produce world class products at the best possible unit cost. But if we expect the whole of automobile industry to find a way out of the crisis in which they are stuck right now, they cannot find a way out. Having worked solo or in silo or in broken yet unknown to the system or unfixed system for cost cutting, we are realising the hard way, that we have nowhere to go.
Even in worst of the crisis, how many countries come together to fight united, the strategies discussed together, the intelligence shared and decisions taken and implemented as if mandated by law of every participating country. Even with decades of the existence of innumerable world bodies, we have not moved an inch. The world is replete with resolutions, declarations, treaties, covenants, accords etc which take decades to happen and takes few more decades for even lip service implementation. Even inside organisations silos rule the roost. Power, influence and mega budgets generally don’t have a tendency to collaborate.
When have two NGOs come together for a common cause? If majority come together on a single issue, the resources which come together, the expertise that can be pooled and the operational excellence which unfolds, could leave all of us in amazement. The tragedy of broken systems is that most of the time, the units keep competing and keep creating documents to prove and defend their existence. This is the ideal situation for non-productive guys to take over the functioning of such enterprises / organisations; the perception management guys, the corporate communication, digital marketing, the ppt to funding story, networking etc. How far can the world deliver on this mode is on naked display now.
It is like the windscreen broken into smithereens stuck up as single piece of glass. It’s sight, it’s utility, the faith it can generate, all become suspects. Documents don’t reflect the reality, they are created to create one. The decision makers whose duty is to dissect are the ones who camouflage. Given their vitiated thought process, they can possibly never find a mistake. They can only drown us.
