RESPONSIBILITY – A MIRAGE

RESPONSIBILITY – A MIRAGE

Picked up in silos, deliberately understood in the most partial manner, claimed to be getting fixed all the time, despite clear cut job descriptions and company charters, is there even a likelihood of improved responsibility to happen in the near future. The same is true of every sector, public, private, academics, research, NGOs et al.
I was introduced to Escalation Matrix a few years back, for simplest of user complaints, dilutes responsibility and absolves all of any accountability in the maze of process . Imagine a situation of police services falling in this rigmarole.

With the present levels of civilizational development, taking responsibility should have been the norm, whether professional, personal and social. Fixing responsibility has become the norm and that too does not happen. That’s a unholy task which no one wants to perform. The economic cost of the layers and layers of responsibility fixers who are no value adds but add to the financial and operational liability of the organisation.

Academic scenario is no less dismal. With smart infrastructure the norm of the day and when smart vision and mission statements adorn the walls of even most mediocre of institutions, corporatization has arrived. Who is responsible for the academic results and all other attributes and skills?  Who is accountable? The examination machine prospers.

Responsibility with Accountability brings in financial propriety. The evaluation of one’s duty description has to be dynamic and real time, adding up to an objective report. The salary / remuneration should be directly proportional to the percentage of task performed. Performance is not an analysis issue, it is primarily a financial issue.

TAKING RESPONSIBILITY RATHER THAN FIXING RESPONSIBILITY SHOULD BE THE NORM
