THE FOURTH INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION – We are in it before we realised!
‘Mastering the Fourth Industrial Revolution’ was the theme of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2016. With a year passing by and 2016 just concluded, the feeling across the globe is that the forces of fourth industrial revolution have gained in momentum immensely, in the last one year. We are at the cusp of a different world.
At the core of it, is the quantum progress in Disruptive Technologies, its integration & fusion, exponential impact and change and an all encompassing impact on the society, polity and economy of this world. Before we realised we are in it.
The broad band of technologies illustratively can be cognitive computing or artificial intelligence, its manifestations across sectors; mobile super computing, self driven cars, intelligent robots, neuro – technological brain enhancements, genetic editing and the like.
The literal ubiquity of the transformation simultaneously with its exponential pace is throwing the vast majority of world off gear, notwithstanding the immense benefit every citizen wound accrue if it happens, as dreamt & desired.
Fourth industrial revolution would be radically different. Besides the exponential nature of technologies it has the capability of fusing physical, digital and the biological worlds. It might also redefine as to what it means to be human. Klaus Schwab who has written a seminal book on this topic is immensely skeptical of the organisations and governments competence to face this challenge.
THE CAPABILITY TO MANAGE EXPONENTIAL CHAGE WILL BE THE WINNER OF THE FOURTH INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION.
