THE WORLD OF INFLUENCING – A PARADIGM SHIFT

The world has always been influenced and there are personalities of eminence in various fields who did the same. More often than not, their achievements brought them to that pedestal as they were the ones, which large numbers felt that should be emulated. They would inspire, motivate and in the process become role models for society. There were a few, who felt that they had a message to disseminate and they went into this act in a pre-planned manner. Such campaigns would succeed or fail depending on their cause, content and appeal.

There can be no denying the fact that there were people who tapped communities’ sentiments and emotions and made their way into the hearts and minds of people, with both negative and positive impacts. The persons we are talking about are akin to what the world is talking about as Influencers today. Influencers always had an organic growth and remained so for most parts of their life, henceforth. In reality there was no separate effort made for influencing for most of them. It just happened, it was their second skin. At least for some of them, their life in itself was a great positive influence on the community and the masses.

There has never been a time in human history where people en masse or in larger numbers have decided to become influencers. There has never been inbuilt monetization of influencing as has been unleashed today. The world of social media has transformed influencing communication beyond recognition and we are seeing its influence all over. Any person can decide to be an influencer, that is where we have come down to. There is no need for any demonstrated capability in the area you want to influence. Personal branding happened for a variety of reasons earlier.

In today’s social media world, you have to create your own brand. The larger the number of people who follow you, read you, and see you, the bigger an influencer you are. You decide your niche area and take off, and there are professionals who are there to sort it out for you. The way you manipulate the medium is the key to your success. The content, presentation, intensity and periodicity can all be calibrated in the manner you want, for a pre-decided impact. Nothing so to say validated in this supposedly transparent make believe world needs to be validated. For example, IAS aspirants in Delhi are now looking for educators who have reached the status of demi-god influencers but are currently missing in action, after the recent death of three of the UPSC aspirants.

BECOMING INFLUENCER TODAY HAS BECOME A CAREER OPTION, MONETIZATION MODEL BEING A FEATHER IN ITS CAP.
