DEATH OF CONVENTIONAL TELEPHONY

Strange as it may sound, the dooms day might not be far off.  Amongst the smart phone users the voice calls of this nature have already landed at number five in usage priority, the future does not promise of any change in this trend.  The cut throat competition is leaving precious little of profit margin. For the older ones familiar from the times of the onset of STD to today’s voice call pricing, leaves nothing to imagination.  The user has plentiful of choices already in their lap.

Skype model was a Disruptive Innovation which took the world by storm.  The internet phenomenon started as a possible partner & not as a competitor. Those who believed that Skype would just mean a revenue erosion for voice were mistaken.  It was a paradigm shift in the nature of technology, complexity, versatility & pricing of communication, voice being just one of them.

While the voice communication moves on the data mode and big data companies as they can be conveniently called, will rule the roost.  The problems faced by the law enforcement agencies were manifold. Today call data analysis throws immense workable information for large number of cases, more often than not provides clues which lead to successful investigation of cases.

Encryption would become an bottleneck in the effective functioning of the intelligence, law & order & investigation.  This has been an issue in the FBI vs Apple case, unresolved to date.  It would only become more and more pervasive as the days pass by.  It’s impact on national security is also an issue in question.  The incapability of legal interception & non-availability details of calls made, whatever might be the medium & issues of not being able to get server information  would be monumental challenges in the days to come. An alternate strategy has to be devised.

THE NEARING DEATH  OF CONVENTIONAL TELEPHONY ENTAILS HUMUNGOUS SECURITY ISSUES.
